Entered into the loving arms of his saviour on August 13, 2026, surrounded by his family, aged 24 yrs. He is the cherished son of Richard and Laura DeFilippo (née Balmer). Loving brother of Peter DeFilippo, Caleb DeFilippo (Eliza), and Aaron DeFilippo. Loving grandson of Doug and Judy Livingston, and Nancy and the late Richard “Dick” Earl DeFilippo. Dear nephew of Jim Balmer (Doreen), Paul Balmer (Danielle), Scott Livingston (Stacey), Robert DeFilippo (Kathie), and Paula Gaehring (Robert). Also survived by many cousins, dear friends, teachers, doctors, nurses, and care givers. In 2002 Luke was diagnosed at four months old with neurofibromatosis and then in the following year he was diagnosed with gliomatosis cerebri. Needless to say, these diagnoses were dire, and Luke was given only a couple of months to a couple of years to live. Defying all expectations, Luke lived to enjoy his baths, the sunny spot near a window, music, walks outside, cheese, Cheerios, and most of all his family. After several years and many more diagnoses, Luke's short life came to an end at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). His legacy will continue through his anatomical donations which will give hope to others. Luke’s family will forever be grateful to the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers at CHOP as well as Samaritan Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Luke’s life on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 10am to 11am at Grace Bible Church, 887 Clements Bridge Road, Barrington, NJ where a Memorial Service will follow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please bring a Mickey toy that will be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Cancer Clinic. To express condolences, please visit www.njfuneralhome.net. Arrangements by POPIOLEKFUNERAL HOME, Barrington, NJ.
