John J. Hennessy, Jr.

November 30, 1942 — July 19, 2023

John Joseph Jr. of Barrington, New Jersey, passed away at home on July 19, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan (née Speace), daughter Erin Hennessy, daughter and son-in-law Kerry Hennessy and Thomas McNulty, and his grandson, Jack McNulty, all of Barrington. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Hennessy Crissman (Jim) of Greensboro, North Carolina, and brother Kevin Hennessy (Nancy) of Oakton, Virginia, as well as four nieces and nephews. John was born in Binghamton, New York, to John Sr. and Rita (née Hogan) Hennessy, who preceded him in death. He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968 and was stationed in Germany, where he learned to ski and developed his interest in photography. After graduating from Villanova University, he earned an MBA from Drexel University and worked for many years in Philadelphia’s finance industry. John and Susan married in 1970 and welcomed two daughters while living in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. In the early 1980s, they moved to Haddonfield, New Jersey, where they raised their family. Passionate about ensuring that his daughters and all Haddonfield students received an exceptional education, John served on the Haddonfield Board of Education for nine years. In 2010, John and Susan moved to Barrington, where he was first and foremost a doting grandfather to Jack. John was an avid woodworker who enjoyed cooking, rooting for the Villanova University men’s basketball team, and cracking what his family lovingly calls “Pop jokes.” Warm, outgoing, funny and generous, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
