George W. Jones, Jr.

January 6, 1937 — April 11, 2022

Passed away peacefully on April 11, 2022 of Barrington, NJ, age 85yrs. Beloved husband of Patricia Egan Jones. Devoted father of Jay Jones (Jennifer), and Megan Jones Griffault. Loving grandfather of Skye and Sage Jones as well as Chloe and Sebastien Griffault. Also survived by his cousin George Carmona as well as his nieces Laurie Jones-Prosser and Tracey Jones. George was born in Atlantic City and resided in Strathmere where George’s great-grandfather, James Carothers founded the Whalen Hotel in 1881, which has now been renamed the Deauville Inn. His family later relocated to Pitman, NJ where he graduated from Pitman H.S. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring from General Accident Insurance Co, George accepted a position with the Camden City Children’s Garden followed by volunteering and working for the Battleship New Jersey. George was an active member of the Barrington community, where he resided for over 50 yrs, serving as a Councilman and later as Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Board. Additionally, George served as the Democratic Committee Chair, and was a member of the Barrington Democrat Club as well as the former Jaycees. When not serving the community George loved coaching for the Barrington Girls Softball and cheering for his favorite baseball team, the Phillies. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday morning from 9am at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 642 Market St., Camden, NJ, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am. Interment will take place privately at Seaside Cemetery, Marmora, NJ.
