On July 12, 2009, age 85 years, a resident of Barrington for nearly 60 years. Beloved husband of 49 ½ years of the late Anne “Nancy” Beatty (Nee Lacey). Devoted father of Ralph M. (Annie) of MD, Maryanne V. Ambrose (Ronald) of Barrington, Therese M. McCloskey, Kathleen P. Vukicevich (Benjamin) all of Stratford, Joseph W. (Marcy) of OH, James T. (Sherill) of Barrington, Helen R. McClean (Thomas) of Somerdale, and Thomas S. (Clare) of Woolwich Twp. Loving “Pop-Pop” of 37 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Brother of Violet Glave of New York and Brother-in-law of Agnes Chapman (Roland) of Barrington. He was predeceased by his parents, William E. and Ada (Nee Thomas) Beatty, a brother William G. Beatty, and 2 sisters Ada Coogan and Florence Gaghan. Ralph was born in Atlantic City, NJ and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1942. He joined the US Navy in August 1942 and served as a Signalman in the Armed Guard in both the Atlantic & Pacific Theaters during World War II, before being honorably discharged in November of 1946. He worked for Klenzoid and Perolin Companies before beginning a company of his own, Portable Pressure Wash., He was later the Owner and Salesman of Orchem Pumps in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia. Ralph was known for his happy outlook on life and his memorable personality. He was always singing or whistling and always thankful for his blessings. He was a founding member of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Barrington and served for many years as an usher. He also ran the Parish Carnival as well as being an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Family Sodality for many years. Prior to his retirement, he attended daily mass at the Shrine of St. John Neumann. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday from 9:30 to 11:15 AM at St. Francis de Sales Church, 199 Wilmont Ave., Barrington, NJ, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests Mass cards or donations in his name be made to the Shrine of St. John Neumann, 1019 N. Fifth St., Philadelphia, PA 19123.
