Belva Lord Pettengill

Belva Lord Pettengill was born August 14, 1930 in Camden, NJ and died August 7, 2016. She was predeceased by her father, George Pettengill and mother Anna (Mitchell) Pettengill. She is survived by her sisters Margaret Thorpe (George) of Green Creek, NJ and Grace Repp (William) of Dennisville, NJ; her nephews Michael Thorpe (Cathy) of Fairport, NY and Kevin Thorpe (Joan) of Spencer, NY; her great nephews and niece Branden Thorpe (fiancé Nikki), Trevor Thorpe, Laurie Pincus (Peter), and Tim Thorpe; and her great-great niece and nephew Evelyn and Britton Pincus. Belva also leaves behind special friends and surrogate family members Mary Cahilly, Emily Carey and Mike Kelley. After graduating from Montclair State University in 1950, she returned to Camden County and began a career teaching elementary school in Magnolia, NJ, that would last 40 years. After retirement she was able to devote her full time to producing beautiful works of art including crewel and needlepoint, hooked and braided rugs, and her ultimate passion, quilts. She was a long-time member of Love Apple Quilts guild and was president from 2000-2002. She completed hundreds of beautiful quilts, many of which brighten the homes of family and friends. Along the way, Belva managed to travel abroad to Australia, New Zealand and the British Isles, and enjoyed a cruise to Alaska. She loved reading, watching the Phillies, and being an Aunt. Belva lived a life that was independent, productive, and full of strength and love. May she rest in peace. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday morning from 11am at the POPIOLEK FUNERAL HOME, 400 Clements Bridge Rd, Barrington, NJ, where a Funeral Service will follow at Noon.
