Anson "Andy" J. Wager

April 28, 1931 — December 26, 2014

On December 26, 2014 of Barrington, NJ age 83yrs. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen (nee Mulvey). Devoted father of Richard, James, Thomas, Janet Chapman, John, Paul, and Mary Boltz. Dear brother of the late Ida Stanton. Loving grandfather of Kasey, JeRee, Caiden, Craig, Timothy, Joshua, Jennifer, John, Jr., Tonya, Stephen, and Charles. Born and raised in Pouphkeepsie, NY, Mr. Wager was a long-time resident of Barrington. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1948 serving in Korea. He then transferred to the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as a Hospital Corpsman for 10 yrs. Andy then transferred back to the Navy serving with the Seabees until retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1974. Mr. Wager earned a B.S. from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1959. He was a member and past president of the Alpha Phi Omega scouting fraternity. He went on to work for the Boy Scouts of America as a professional scouter. In 1962, Andy began his career with the United Way of Camden County, where he retired as Acting President in 1994. Andy lived his life by the Law of the Scouts (duty to God, Country, Self, and Others). He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of the Haddons where he served as Past Distinguished President as well as Past Lt. Governor. Mr. Wager served as Scout Master for the Barrington Boy Scouts where as an Eagle Scout himself, he helped many others achieve that honor. Andy also previously served as Chairman of the Camden Diocesan Scouting Youth Ministry Committee. Most recently, Andy was very active with U.S.S New Jersey where he volunteered as a Docent, assisted with youth encampments as well as assisted the curator with several restoration projects including the Chapel, Hospital, Dental Clinic, and the Marine Corps Detachment. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday evening from 6 to 9PM and again on Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30am at the POPIOLEK FUNERAL HOME, 400 Clements Bridge Rd, Barrington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday in St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Gloucester Pike & Wilmont Ave. Barrington. Interment with Military Honors will take place privately at Brg. Gen. Wm C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
